Paid internship @ Reuters Tokyo bureau

Reuters seeks student journalists with a passion for breaking news to work as paid interns in its Tokyo newsroom during the summer of 2009.

"There is nothing like the constant deadline of a news agency to hone your reporting and writing skills," the ad states. "The 10-week internships are a crash course in hands-on business, political and general news reporting. A Reuters internship offers student journalists a global audience of leading media outlets, financial decision-makers and savvy Internet readers with a potential audience of a billion people."

Candidates should have a strong ability to write in English and native or near-native fluency in Japanese. They should be a college senior or graduate student with a background in journalism and an interest in business news writing. Preference will be given to candidates with the right to work in Japan and who plan to base themselves in Tokyo for the summer.

The deadline to apply is March 31, 2009. Apply online (http://careers.thomsonreuters.com) or e-mail your application to careers.jp@reuters.com. Attach cover letter, resume and news clippings in English.

While there is no guarantee of future employment at the end of the internship, Reuters notes that it has a track record of retaining the best of its summer interns.
