The Kearny (N.J.) Observer, a 35,000-circulation weekly newspaper about 10 miles from Manhattan, seeks freelance journalist who lives in the area to cover general assignments in North Arlington and Lyndhurst.

"The candidate must have either current experience in a daily or a weekly newspaper and be able to come up with three articles a week, both hard news and feature, that are professional and timely," the ad states. "The reporter must know how to connect with the political scene as well the community concerns. Proficiency in creating logical and readable journalism is necessary, as is deadline skills. Needs to have a digital camera and know how to use it."
