Reporter @ weekly Providence newspaper
The Rhode Island Catholic, a 31,000-circulation weekly newspaper covering the Providence Area's Catholic Community, seeks a full-time reporter.
The reporter will "cover local, national and international news of interest to the state's Catholic community," the ad states. "The staff reporter is responsible for: covering and writing stories; developing special issues, features and story ideas; chooses wire copy for world pages; layout of pages; taking photos; writing photo captions; editing video features for Rhode Island Catholic website; and other duties as assigned."
This may not be the entry-level job you dreamed of, but don't overlook it. You'll get to live in Providence (a very charming city near Boston) and you'll get to cover a variety of stories. The position also comes with health insurance, pension, vacation and paid sick time -- benefits many entry-level journalism jobs don't offer. It certainly beats unemployment. You need not be Catholic, but the ad says you should have knowledge of the Catholic Church.
