Elmira, N.Y. newspaper seeks paid H.S. interns
The Elmira (N.Y.) Star-Gazette, a 25,500-circulation daily newspaper near the New York-Pennsylvania border, is offering paid internships this summer to high school juniors and seniors.
"The successful candidates will receive hands-on experience in the field of journalism and be paid for their work thanks to a $2,000 grant provided by the Tripp Foundation," the announcement states.
Interested candidates must submit a cover letter, resume (including references) and at least two writing samples (schoolwork is acceptable). The cover letter should state the applicant's perspective on the evolving role of a community newspaper.
Applicants also must have a valid driver's license and auto insurance.
The deadline to apply is Friday. The internship begins in early July and ends before school resumes, or when the candidates must report to college.
