N.C. newspapers seeking reporters

A few North Carolina newspapers are seeking reporters. These may be good places for young journalists to apply:
  • The Smoky Mountain News, a 16,000-circulation free weekly in Waynesville, seeks a reporter "adept at enterprise and investigative stories who also values watchdog coverage of county and town boards." Send resume to info@smokymountainnews.com.
  • The Lumberton Robesonian, a 14,000-circulation daily newspaper in southeastern North Carolina, seeks a sports reporter. "Coverage is mostly high school, with some coverage of The University of North Carolina at Pembroke," the ad states. Pay is competitive and includes benefits. Send clips and resume to Editor Donnie Douglas at ddouglas@heartlandpublications.com.
  • The Benson-Four Oaks News in Review, a twice-weekly newspaper in Johnston County, seeks a general assignment reporter. "This job would be good for a print journalist who prefers covering a wide variety of activities, as well as possibly improving already-good skills and even learning new ones," the ad states. Send resumes, samples and references to mld1sp@aol.com.
