Paid spring intern @ Boston publisher

Brill, a Boston-based international publisher of scholarly books, journals, and electronic resources, is seeking an intern for the spring 2010 semester. The position comes with a small stipend.

"The intern will have the opportunity to work in the editorial/production department and to be exposed to all facets of the publishing industry," the ad states. "S/he will be introduced to the steps leading up to production and learn how a manuscript is brought from initial submission to bound book. Duties include preparing a manuscript for typesetting, checking proofs, facilitating the trafficking of all proofing stages, and adjusting images for press. In addition, s/he will have the opportunity to assist in the development of marketing plans and materials to promote these works. Marketing responsibilities will include working with databases, writing promotional copy, market research, and conference support."
