Entry-level reporter @ L.A. Times Community News

Los Angeles Times Community News (TCN) is seeking a full-time reporter and social media expert for the Laguna Beach Coastline Pilot.

There are two sides to this job. The first is to cover the Laguna Beach school board, breaking news, features and help with extensive calendar listings for online and print. The second is to expand and grow the Coastline Pilot’s social media footprint through Twitter, Facebook and other services, as well as increase online traffic by working directly with the Times Community News South online editor. This will require strong technical skills in video, photo, online presentation and social networking. Even though there is a sizeable technical component, the job is still rooted in good reporting and requires a strong, accurate writer with sound news judgment and a thirst for breaking stories online.

This is an entry-level position and will be based at the TCN newsroom in Costa Mesa with a good deal of travel to Laguna Beach for newsgathering. Interested parties should send a resume, cover letter and links to six stories to John Canalis, editor, TCN South, atjohn.canalis@latimes.com. Also include relevant links to personal/professional home pages, Twitter accounts, YouTube, Facebook fan pages and so forth.
