News assistant @ L.A. Times Seoul burea

The Los Angeles Times' Seoul correspondent is seeking a news assistant to begin immediately. Job responsibilities include playing a critical role in supporting the newspaper’s lone correspondent in the ROK by researching stories, arranging interviews and interpreting.

The position requires some travel in South Korea as well as monitoring newspapers and news internet sites in the Koreas as well as Japan and several Southeast Asian nations.

There will be opportunities to attend press conferences and breaking news events in the ROK. Qualified applicants will be encouraged to research and write their own stories for publication. There is also some office administration involved in the job.

This is a prime opportunity for someone who is enterprising, able to work under pressure without comprising accuracy, with polished English skills and a proven interest in journalism.

Salary will be commensurate with experience. The hours are fulltime, 10 am to 6 pm, give or take, with some weekend work when news breaks. Please include a resume and cover letter along with some story ideas to John Glionna at latseoul@gmail.com. Deadline is Tuesday, January 11th
