Raleigh News & Observer seeking young journalists

The News & Observer in Raleigh, N.C., is seeking talented early-career journalists for reporting opportunities in its network of nine twice-weekly community newspapers. These popular papers, which offer news and feature coverage of fast-growing areas in the Research Triangle Park region, are delivered with The N&O to subscribers and as stand-alone community newspapers with advertising inserts to non-subscribing households.

Community staff journalists are expected to generate a healthy mix of hard news and features stories each week (usually 4 to 6 stories, plus briefs) on wide-ranging subjects such as municipal government, growth and development, crime, profiles, community events and everything in-between. They work in collaboration with N&O colleagues to plan coverage and share content; these jobs are excellent opportunities to grow, shine and advance.

Requirements: Bachelor’s degree, preferably in journalism, and one to two years reporting experience at a daily or community newspaper, or equivalent. Ability to work on deadline, multi-task and work in a fast-paced environment. Candidates should have expertise with editorial production software and an aptitude for mastering new applications.

Relocation assistance is not provided.

Please send letter of interest, resume and three work samples to jstark@newsobserver.com.
