Editor @ San Diego small newspaper

San Diego Uptown News, a 22,000-circulation biweekly newspaper, is seeking an editor with knowledge of the Uptown area and two to three years experience in news writing, editing and managing a team of freelance writers and reporters.

The ideal person for this position:
- Has a college journalism degree or significant equivalent experience.
- Has some experience managing a newspaper or periodical.
- Can propose between five and six story ideas for news writers per newspaper issue.
- Can write and edit news stories, features and headlines in AP style.
- Is familiar with WordPress and how to upload website content.
- Experience with InDesign software and has an eye for design.
- Is organized, professional and a team player, and has good people skills.
- Is an energetic person who doesn’t mind working on weekends and evenings.
- Has or can quickly develop contacts with local community leaders, groups and organizations.

This is an opportunity to lead a dynamic, growing local news publication from our casual, friendly office in Hillcrest. This is a 30-40 hour/week position. Starting pay is $14/hour.

This is a great position for someone who has a few years of journalism experience under their belt or would like to gain more experience with a local community paper before branching out to a larger news organization.

Please forward a cover letter, resume and examples of published news stories to David Mannis at dmannis@sduptownnews.com
