Northern Calif. newspaper seeks part-time reporter
The Humboldt Beacon, a 4,300-circulation weekly newspaper in Eureka, Calif., is interested in working with a free-lance reporter who will write on issues concerning the upper Eel River Valley from Loleta to Rio Dell-Scotia generally.
The reporters' beat would concentrate solely on municipal, community service district, and Chamber of Commerce issues in the cities of Ferndale, Fortuna and Rio Dell. Your writing would be featured exclusively in the Beacon, and cannot be sold or given away to other publications. We are not interested in news of any other area, and not interested in "fluff" articles or opinion pieces.
Factual reportage without personal bias is a must. We are a plain vanilla publication. Meetings may be attended in person and some may be viewed at home on cable TV. For now, writers will adhere to an assignment schedule (negotiable) and get paid by the article, but the position could possibly evolve into a part-time position for the right candidate. Good transportation a big plus. Taking photos is also a plus, but is not mandatory. (We do not accept cell phone camera images).
All writing and photos must be sent via email, so writers must have access to the Internet. For information e-mail: news@humboldtbeacon.com.
