Internships @ political website in NYC

Talking Points Memo, a popular political news website, seeks journalism interns in its New York City office. Here's the info:

TPM interns in our New York office are involved in every aspect of our operation and have a hand in everything we do. They work alongside our reporters to write and break stories, help our editors keep a finger on the pulse of the news day, and produce all kinds of digital media from youtube clips to mash-up photographs. The interns also attend weekly brown bag lunches with reporters, editors and publishing staff to learn the ins and outs of the new media business.

Half of our current staff is made up of former TPM interns. Others have moved on to jobs in new and old media alike, working for Think Progress, The New Republic, The Wall Street Journal, Huffington Post, The New York Sun, The New Yorker, The Washington Post and more.

In early 2009 we introduced our new Editorial Fellows program. A limited number of interns are invited to join our Editorial Fellows program, which runs an additional three (3) to six (6) months and comes with a stipend.

To learn more about what we do at TPM and what we've accomplished in the last year, see these news reports on TPM from 2007.

Because each intern is encouraged to work in multiple parts of our operation, it's important that applicants have a basic understanding of new media technologies (blogging, youtube, etc.) and a desire and ability to learn quickly.

Video Intern

We are looking for one intern who is video specific. This person should have a working knowledge of Final Cut, and be ready and excited to dive into the world of TPMtv.

2010/2011 Internships (NYC only)

Our Fall 2010 NYC interns must be available to start around August 16, 2010, our Winter 2010 NYC interns must be available to start around November 15, 2010, and our Spring NYC interns must be available to start around February 14, 2011. To apply for any of our internships, send an email to talk at talkingpointsmemo.com with a cover letter, resume and two references. If you're interested in video or publishing, please specify that in your cover letter. Include in the email subject "TPM Video Internship," "TPM Publishing Internship", "TPM Advertising Internship" or "TPM Internship" for all general news interns. Internships run for three (3) months and are based in TPM's New York City office. Qualified applicants can receive academic credit.

Rolling Internships (Intern now!)

At any given time, it is always possible that we could use a smart person in the office to replace a lost intern or help us manage the ever-growing mountain of muck and news. If you're available to come in sooner than the beginning of the next internship cycle begins, let us know.
