Journalism scholarships for GA, FL and MS students
$5,000 college scholarships are available for students who are from Mississippi, Florida and Georgia and interested in a journalism career.
Applicants for this year’s journalism scholarships administered by the John M. Will Memorial Scholarship Foundation in Mobile must have their applications postmarked by March 26.
The Foundation will award college scholarships to students wanting to pursue a career in print, photo, on-line or broadcast journalism.
One John M. Will Memorial scholarship is for $5,000; the Hearin-Chandler Foundation Scholarship is for $5,000. Additional scholarships for lesser amounts also may be awarded. The scholarships will cover the 2011-2012 academic year. Finalists will be invited for interviews April 30, and recipients will be selected following the interviews.
The John Will scholarship honors a former education reporter for the Mobile Register. The Hearin-Chandler scholarship honors former publishers of the Mobile Register. High school seniors and undergraduate and graduate students enrolled full-time in an accredited university or college may apply. To be eligible, applicants must be residents of Mobile, Baldwin, Escambia, Clarke, Conecuh, Washington and Monroe counties in Alabama, Santa Rosa and Escambia counties in Florida, or Jackson and George counties in Mississippi. The scholarships may be used at any accredited university or college. Application materials can be obtained by contacting Brandon Hughey at the law firm of Armbrecht, Jackson, DeMouy, 251-405-1238.
