MBA Scholarships for Journalists at University of Cambridge in UK

Cambridge Judge Business School is offering a scholarship to a new intake who works in the media industry and is applying to start a Cambridge MBA in September 2012. You must first apply the MBA admission before sending applying for the scholarship.

Value of Scholarship: £10,000 towards the cost of the MBA fees.

Eligibility: You need to have a deep understanding of the changes in the industry. This may have been gained as a journalist, but applications will also be considered from candidates who work in the creative or financial side of media.

How to Apply: If you have been offered a place in the MBA programme, then send the MBA admission an email with a one page essay explaining your suitability for the Media.

Deadline: April 20, 2012.

College journalism scholarship for Indiana H.S. students

Indiana high school students can apply for up to $6,500 in journalism scholarship money for college.

The Hoosier State Press Association Foundation will award two $1,500 scholarships again this year to future print journalists in partnership with the Indiana High School Press Association's Indiana Student Journalist of the Year competition.

One scholarship will be for the best portfolio from a small school (fewer than 2,000 students) and the other for the best entry from a large one (more than 2,001 enrollment). Journalist of the Year state winners compete in the Journalism Education Association's national contest, in which more scholarships - $5,000 and $2,000 - are given.

Students should send portfolios to Diana Hadley, 101 Branigin Boulevard, Franklin College, Franklin, IN 46131 by the postmark deadline Wednesday, Feb. 15. More information and the entry form are at the Journalism Education Association website, www.jea.org/awards/journalist.html.

$5,000 journalism scholarship for New Jersey H.S. student

New Jersey residents attending New Jersey high schools can apply for a $5,000 scholarship to study journalism in college.

The Bernard Kilgore Memorial Scholarship will be awarded following a statewide competition sponsored by the New Jersey Press Foundation and the Garden State Scholastic Press Association. The recipient also is named GSSPA's New Jersey High School Journalist of the Year and is entered in a competition for the National High School Journalist of the Year, operated by the Journalism Education Association.

Journalism scholarships for Oklahoma college students

The Oklahoma Newspaper Foundation awards three $1,500 scholarships to Oklahoma journalism students each year.

To be eligible, applicants must: be majoring in journalism or equivalent degree program; be a junior or senior for the 2012-13 academic year; enrolled full-time at an Oklahoma college or university. Preference will be given to students demonstrating a career commitment to newspaper journalism.

Sports journalism college scholarship for Connecticut h.s. student

The Connecticut Sports Writers’ Alliance is accepting applications for its annual Bohdan “Bo” Kolinsky Memorial Journalism Scholarship.

Hurry and apply! All applications and supporting materials must be received by 9 a.m. Eastern Standard Time on Monday, Feb. 6, 2012, or postmarked before 5 p.m. Friday, Feb. 3, 2012.

The scholarship provides a minimum of $1,000 to a secondary school senior from Connecticut who is admitted to an accredited four-year college for studies leading to a career in sports journalism. A winner of the scholarship may apply for increased grants for succeeding years of undergraduate study, provided that he/she meets standards of progress set by the Alliance. A student who remains a Kolinsky Scholar for four years may receive grants totaling $6,500.

$20,000 journalism scholarship for college and graduate students

Student journalists can apply for a generous new national scholarship program intended to foster digital and new media skills. Hurry and apply -- the deadline is this Friday, January 27.

The AP-Google Journalism and Technology Scholarship program will provide $20,000 scholarships for the 2012-13 academic year to six promising undergraduate or graduate students pursuing or planning to pursue degrees at the intersection of journalism, computer science and new media. The program is targeted to individual students creating innovative projects that further the ideals of digital journalism. A key goal is to promote geographic, gender and ethnic diversity, with an emphasis on rural and urban areas.

Scholarship for foreign journalists to study at Columbia University

Journalists from developing or transitional countries are invited to apply for a fellowship that will cover all expenses to study at Columbia University's Graduate School of Journalism in New York.

The Jack R. Howard Fellowship provides full tuition, living assistance, and travel for the 10-month program. Candidates must apply online to the journalism school to be considered for the fellowship. Deadline is December 15.

Tweet your way to a $5,000 scholarship

High school and college students nationwide can win one of 22 $5,000 scholarships through “Free to Tweet” on Dec. 15, the 220th anniversary of our right to free expression.

Beginning at midnight on Dec. 15, students ages 14 to 22 can tweet their support for the First Amendment with the hash tag #freetotweet, which will enter them in the “Free to Tweet” scholarship competition. Students are encouraged to freely express themselves in their entries, which can be posted on any publicly viewable social media platform, including blogs.

The Free to Tweet contest takes place throughout the day, Dec. 15, 2011, on National Bill of Rights day.

The First Amendment was born in the 18th century but it’s your ticket to expressing yourself in 21st century ways. It guarantees your right to write, tweet, blog, read, sing and perform. It protects you at school and in church, allowing you to be you.

Overseas reporting opportunities for student journalists

The Overseas Press Club Foundation is offering 14 internships and scholarships for graduate and undergraduate students who want to report abroad.

The Foundation pays travel and living expenses for interns in foreign bureaus at such leading news organizations at the Associated Press and Reuters, among others, and at foreign English-language media companies like the South China Morning Post and Cambodia Daily. In many cases, winning a prestigious OPC Foundation award has helped launch careers.

Video journalism scholarship opportunity

WPRNY, a New York City video production company, is sponsoring a nationwide contest offering a $500 scholarship prize to the student or group of students who create the most original and effective video journalism news package about a local small business who is changing the world.

Deadline: September 15, 2011

Eligibility: Contestants must be students attending an accredited college, university, or high school in the continental U.S. or Canada at any point during 2011.

Length: Video can be up to 3 minutes long

Subject matter: An everyday small business that is changing the world in a positive way.

“We are looking for creative and innovative approaches to the practice, presentation and delivery of news about small business,” says Eric Wolfram, Director of Production at WPRNY.

Journalism scholarship for Stanislaus County, Calif. students

Stanislaus County, California students can apply for the Modesto Bee Journalism Scholarship.

Two $500 awards will be given to high school seniors graduating from area high schools, one of whom is a member of an ethnic minority, who intends to pursue a career in journalism.

Applications will be accepted until April 4. Students should complete the online application form by going to the foundation Web site at www.stanislauscommunityfoundation.org and selecting "Grantmaking" from the homepage. Then select "Scholarships" and "How to Apply."

Journalism scholarship for Kansas students

A $500 scholarship is available for to high school seniors who plan to attend Kansas universities and to college freshmen or sophomores in Kansas universities. Students are eligible if they are majoring in journalism, political science or communications.

The deadline to apply for the Kansas County Clerks’ and Election Officials’ Association scholarship is due April 5. Applications may be picked up in the Election Office at 911 SW 37th St. or in the County Clerk’s office in the Shawnee County Courthouse, 200 SE 7th Room 107.

KY3, a Springfield, Missouri TV station, is offering two $1,000 broadcast journalism scholarships for next school year.

Applicants must be an Arkansas or Missouri resident, attending a post-secondary institution (two or four-year college or vo-tech/trade school) during the 2011-12 school year, and enrolled in a broadcast or related curriculum, which provides training and expertise applicable to a broadcast operation.

Journalism scholarships for Oregon students

Oregon high school students and college students interested in journalism can apply for $1,000 scholarships. The deadline is March 11.

Two of the scholarships will go to high school seniors, and two will be given to college journalism students. Applicants must have at least a 3.25 cumulative grade-point average, be enrolled full time in an Oregon high school or college, and participate in a school newspaper.

To apply, applicants must submit a 250-word essay about journalism interest and experience; a 300-word essay on short- and long-term goals and how the scholarship would impact the student's financial ability to complete a degree; two letters of recommendation, including one from a teacher and one from person familiar with the applicant's love of journalism; a résumé; and a college or high school transcript.

Journalism scholarship & internship for Ohio students

High school seniors who live in Ohio and are interested in a journalism career can apply for the annual Si Burick Journalism Scholarship. The $2,000 scholarship goes toward first-year college tuition. Winners also can participate in the Mickey Davis Summer Internship program available to recipients during their four years in college.
