Paid internship @ Wisconsin newspaper

The Country Today, a 20,000-circulation weekly "newspaper dedicated to every facet of rural life in Wisconsin and Minnesota," is offering a paid summer internship in its Eau Claire, Wisc. newsroom.

The internships will run from late May until early September (starting and ending dates may vary with school-year commitments).

General duties of the summer intern include:
• Setting up appointments for interviews for stories.
• Interviewing sources in person and on the telephone.
• Attending events or meetings for news stories.
• Writing stories for publication in The Country Today.
• Taking photographs of publishable quality to accompany stories.
• Working on special projects as assigned by editor.

Requirements:
• Driving will be required. Applicants must have a valid driver's license and access to a vehicle. Vehicle will not be provided.
• Computer skills are required; computer workstation will be provided.
• Photography skills are required; a digital camera will be provided.
• Stories will be edited before publication. Interns must be willing to accept editing and other constructive criticism.
• Applicants must be in good standing and be considered college juniors or seniors. Applicants with agriculture or farm-related majors or backgrounds are preferred but it is not required. Majors may include communications, journalism, English, agriculture journalism or similar programs.
• Applicants must display excellent writing skills and an awareness of journalistic writing style.
• The summer internship is a temporary, full-time, paid position ($8.50 per hour). Intern is reimbursed for all work-related expenses. School credits may be available.
• Midwest candidates preferred.
