Entry-level reporter job near Phoenix
InMaricopa, a news website and quarterly magazine near Phoenix, is seeking a general assignment reporter.
Reporter will cover city hall, school board, high school sports, business stories and whatever else comes up. The position could be either full-time or half-time. The successful candidate will be joining a highly-regarded, 7-year-old high-traffic daily news website and monthly newspaper in Maricopa, Ariz., a town of 40,000 located about 20 miles south of Phoenix.
This would be a great job for an experienced community journalist who has worked as a professional for several years or, possibly, a recent journalism grad with top-notch skills and a strong portfolio of clips who knows how to find interesting stories, track down sources and turn out a high volume of accurate, entertaining AP-style copy.
You will be writing multiple stories per day, gaining a ton of experience in gathering and reporting news. You will also have the opportunity to do longer feature writing for the newspaper and a slick quarterly city magazine.
Web and multi-media skills are essential. You should be able shoot and edit video, create online slideshows and work with html code to some extent.
Pay is $10 to $15 an hour, depending on experience.
If you think you fit the bill, please send a brief cover letter stating your interest and qualifications, your resume, three recent clips and a couple of good reference to: steve@inmaricopa.com.
Resumes without a cover letter and the additional material will not be considered. Put Reporter in the subject line.
