Entry-level science journalism job @ Nature Medicine in NYC

Nature Medicine, an international biomedical journal, is offering a 6-month, full-time, paid science writing internship. Position starts in May and is based in New York City.

Paid spring journalism internship @ Inc. magazine in San Francisco

SAILING, a 45,000-circulation monthly magazine about sailing, is seeking an assistant editor to work in its Port Washington, Wisc. headquarters.

The assistant editor will work with other staff editors to produce this national magazine (published 10 times per year) about the sport of sailing. Job duties include managing and coordinating magazine departments, working with freelance writers, editing all editorial copy in the magazine, producing feature stories, occasionally writing stories for the magazine and more.

Journalism internship @ Seattle Business magazine

Seattle Business, a monthly magazine that covers Washington state business news and has 105,00 readers, is seeking a part-time editorial intern.

Interns usually work on a six-month contract for 20 hours per week. A $100 stipend is paid at the end of the internship. While ideal for recent college grads, anyone with an interest in magazine and/or business journalism would find us a good place to cut their teeth.

Typical intern responsibilities include fact-checking all stories with primary sources (we have an established procedure for this, but it does involves a fair amount of phone/email work), writing much of the front “Startup” section of each issue and compiling the business events calendar.

Interns are also called upon to write blog posts for the website, develop and research story ideas, attend editorial department brainstorming and planning meetings, conduct interviews, perform other editorial-related clerical work, and write longer stories for the magazine.

Paid summer journalism internship @ The Washingtonian magazine

The Washingtonian, a lifestyle magazine in Washington, D.C. read by 400,000 people, is offering a full-time, four-month paid editorial internship this summer. Pay is $8.25 per hour.

The magazine is looking for bright people with good research, reporting, and writing skills who don't require a lot of hand-holding. In exchange, it offers an experience that's low on grunt work and high on opportunity. Duties include fact-checking, research, and some writing. The Politics & Policy section at U.S. News & World Report is seeking a college graduate with a diverse background in writing and Web production for a one-year paid internship.

The duties of this full-time (37.5 hours a week), hourly paid position will include:
-Researching and writing stories for the Politics & Policy section, including the Opinion and Whispers sections
-Assisting with the production of Web packages that include stories, charts, slide shows, photo galleries, and other elements
-Writing and editing headlines and other content for the Politics & Policy and Opinion sections

Paid summer journalism internship @ Maclean's news magazine in Toronto

Maclean’s, a 350,000-circulation Canadian newsweekly magazine, is offering a three-month paid summer internship program in its Toronto newsroom.

It is open to anyone interested in journalism, but prioritizes those who are entering their final year of postsecondary study. The intern works within the editorial department, writing stories and contributing files to other writers as needed.

The two Ann MacGregor memorial internships pay $1,750 a month, for the months of June, July and August. A five-day Monday-to-Friday work week is expected.
