Editorial assistant job @ medical journal near DC

The American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO), a progressive medical and educational non-profit association, is in search of a detail-oriented Editorial Assistant with 1-2 years of related experience to join our Journals Department. The candidate will perform editorial and administrative support functions within a collaborative team environment. This position provides the opportunity to exhibit both research and analytical skills to support the enhancement of two prestigious peer-reviewed publications, Journal of Clinical Oncology (www.jco.org) and Journal of Oncology Practice (www.jopasco.org). Key Responsibilities:
Perform broad research and data analysis for the purpose of suggesting enhancements for members and journal subscribers
Support authors, reviewers and editors with all aspects of the peer review process by phone, e-mail accounts and fax
Assist Associate Editors with the manuscript review process
Identify new technological capabilities that could improve the online journals and suggest possible solutions
Organize and coordinate projects involving internal and external participants that are based on research and editor and staff recommendations
Develop corporate knowledge repository for editorial processes
Generate detailed Excel reports
Perform administrative duties as needed, such as meeting organization

To qualify for this position, the successful candidate will possess:
College in English, Journalism, or other publishing-related area or equivalent experience
Advanced proficiency with managing data using Microsoft Excel
Excellent oral and written communications skills
Strong organizational and analytical skills
Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced, team-oriented and professional environment

The ideal candidate will also possess:
Experience in a scholarly publishing environment
Proficiency with wiki software
