6-month journalism internship @ Hawaii newspaper for recent grad
The Molokai Dispatch, a 5,000-circulation weekly newspaper in Kaunakakai, Hawaii, is seeking a recent graduate for a 6-month, full-time reporting internship.
You will be given a weekly stipend of $40, which covers some food expenses. Housing, utilities and on-island transportation are also provided. As a Dispatch intern, you will have your own room in a house shared with other interns. A stick shift car, bicycle and moped are also available for shared use. Gas expenses for work are covered by the Dispatch.
This position requires a six-month commitment, beginning as soon as possible. To apply, you must have a bachelor’s degree in journalism and previous experience in newspapers or other publications. Experience in photography and video is a plus. We’re also looking for someone with sensitivity to minority and cultural issues, an outgoing personality and the ability to “tough it out” in challenging situations, and a strong sense of responsibility and journalistic ethics. This is NOT a vacation or adventure -- it is an opportunity to work in journalism and make a positive difference in our small community.
To apply, email a non-generic cover letter, resume and three writing samples that best demonstrate your journalistic skill. Include “Reporting Intern Applicant” in your subject line and email to editor@themolokaidispatch.com. For more info about this opprtunity, click here.
