Paid 6-month science journalism internship @ Chemical & Engineering News in DC

Chemical & Engineering News, the widely-read weekly newsmagazine of the American Chemical Society, seeks a science-writing intern for 2012.

C&EN reports current events in the chemical enterprise, including recent advances in research, education, industry, funding, and regulatory policy. C&EN reaches all 154,000 members of the ACS each week, and its online edition receives more than 14 million page views per year.

The candidate should be a highly motivated student or recent graduate with demonstrated interest in science writing and at least a bachelor's degree in chemistry or a related field. The intern will have a chance to write bylined news and feature stories for publication in C&EN and to generate multimedia and other content for C&EN Online. The intern will also help maintain C&EN’s social media presence.

During their 3-6 month stint, the intern is expected to work for C&EN full time (40 hours/wk) and will be paid $20.50/hr. The intern ideally will be based in our Washington, DC, headquarters; however, candidates unable to relocate may be considered. Starting and ending dates are flexible.

Please send cover letter, resume, references, and pdfs of two science-writing samples to: Amanda Yarnell, Assistant Managing Editor, Science/Technology/Education, at a_yarnell@acs.org.

We highly encourage applicants to include additional multimedia samples.

Deadline for applications is February 29, 2012. C&EN plans to make a decision by March 31, 2012.
