Paid summer journalism internship @ The Washingtonian magazine

The Washingtonian, a lifestyle magazine in Washington, D.C. read by 400,000 people, is offering a full-time, four-month paid editorial internship this summer. Pay is $8.25 per hour.

The magazine is looking for bright people with good research, reporting, and writing skills who don't require a lot of hand-holding. In exchange, it offers an experience that's low on grunt work and high on opportunity. Duties include fact-checking, research, and some writing. Editors, writers, and heads of the advertising, promotion, production, circulation, art, and photography departments meet with interns once or twice a week to discuss their own roles at the magazine and careers in journalism. Graduates of the internship program have gone on to publications such as Vanity Fair, People, Entertainment Weekly, National Geographic, Allure, Martha Stewart, Everyday Food, and USA Today (as well as landed full-time jobs at Washingtonian).

To apply, by March 1, send a cover letter, resume, three writing samples, and a list of references to Michael Gaynor at The Washingtonian, 1828 L St., NW, Suite 200, Washington, DC 20036. Specify that you're applying for a summer internship. Questions? Email mgaynor[at]washingtonian.com. DO NOT send applications via fax or email.
