The Herald, a 15-edition chain of weekly newspapers covering the South Shore of Nassau County, N.Y., seeks a full-time reporter to cover the Five Towns Communities or Long Beach. Job pays $24,000 per year.

"We focus on community news, on the people in the neighborhoods we serve, covering the events, crimes, celebrations, issues and happenings that affect our readership," the ad states. "Qualified applicants must have full-time newspaper reporting experience after college, good news judgment and a knack for finding interesting stories. Freelance journalists wanted in Long Island

Patch.com, a series of websites covering community news, is coming to Commack, NY. Patch.com already has 11 sites in Long Island and covers all types of events, meetings and other town activities. You can view them here: huntington.patch.com or syosset.patch.com

If you're a journalist, writer or photographer-- we need you. You should be based in Commack, NY, or within 15 minutes of it, and must be able to adhere to deadlines. You should also have a reliable car and access to a camera. You should be familiar with writing for the Web, or at least have an interest in doing so. The pay for articles, videos and photos ranges from $50-$200 depending on the assignment.
