Journalism internship @ travel magazine in San Francisco

Afar, a travel magazine and website, is seeking an editorial for its San Francisco office.

Essential duties:
-Check the general email inbox for story ideas and reader feedback; respond to inquiries and pitches
-Interview writers and photographers for the Contributors page
-Assist with research for departments and feature sidebars
-Fact-check departments
-Contribute to social media efforts, AFAR.com, and the editors’ blog
-Participate in editorial planning and manuscript meetings and occasionally attend trainings and media-related events
-Provide general administrative help (e.g. mailing magazines, organizing hotel databases, etc.)
-Pitch story ideas and write short pieces for departments, such as Stay, Good Trips, and Guide

Desired skillset and qualifications:
-Prior journalism experience or relevant writing, research, and publishing skills
-Excellent written and verbal communication
-Some international travel experience ideal
-Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented work environment
-Three month, 40-hour-a-week minimum time commitment in exchange for course credit or a small stipend
-Curiosity, enthusiasm, confidence, and professional maturity
-A love for magazines and a passion for travel
-Strong sense of humor
