Political journalism internship program in DC

The Institute on Political Journalism in Washington, D.C., offers internships and classes for college students during the summer.

For about 35 hours a week, students interns work with a print or broadcast media outlet, news services, internet publications, PR firms, Capitol Hill press offices, or advocacy organizations. The IPJ staff will match students with an internship that best meets their interests and level of skill. Students may also arrange his or her own internship if it meets the requirements of the Institute. In addition, students take two three-credit courses at Georgetown University and have an opportunity to earn an additional three credits for their internship.

Intern responsibilities vary, but often include:
* Covering Congressional hearings
* Drafting articles for publication
* Editing and producing news stories
* Researching
* Writing press releases
* Assisting with media relations
* General administrative office work

The program carries a tuition price tag through Georgetown University, but also has opportunities for scholarships. Deadline to apply is March 3.

As an alum of the program, I highly recommend it. Click here for more info and to apply.
