BBC offering journalism apprenticeships in Scotland

The BBC seeks applicants for its 2013 apprenticeship program based in Glasgow.

The apprentices will receive $14,397 (or UK£9,000) to work with the BBC, STV and independent production companies for one year making radio, TV and online content for all kinds of output and programs.

Duties include administrative support and office duties, as well essential tasks like taking tapes and equipment from one location to another. Possible tasks include booking travel, arranging meetings, helping to make content and more.

Paid radio news summer internship in Alaska

KFSK, NPR's affiliate radio station in southeast Alaska, is offering a paid summer internship. The 2 to 3 month internship provides basic housing at the radio station, round trip airfare from within the United States, and a $100 per week stipend. It's a very hands-on experience.

"The successful applicant will work full-time as a reporter/producer and will also host local news, weather, community announcements and station breaks during NPR's morning edition," the ad states. "They will perform a variety of other station duties as assigned. The intern may cover a variety of topics of local, regional and statewide interest. There are plenty of opportunities for features and natural sound pieces."

Paid broadcast journalism internships available nationwide

Paid year-round internships at TV stations and shows such as Fox LA, CBS News, and ABC’s 20/20, are available through the the Institute for Humane Studies.

Interns receive a $3,200 stipend for an eight-week internship. They also get a travel allowance to get to the internship. There's a six-day journalism workshop, featuring acclaimed journalists from The Atlantic and Reason Magazine, plus academic lectures on topics such as the history of the free press and working with statistics. Interns also receive job placement assistance from the program director, a former journalist.

IHS places interns at broadcast journalism media outlets, but applicants can also find their own unpaid internship and seek a stipend through the program.

Advanced undergraduates, recent graduates, and graduate students of all majors, including political science and economics majors are eligible. Paid summer journalism internship in Germany

Freie Universität Berlin and the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) are pleased to announce the fifth year of an intensive scholarship-supported summer seminar/internship program in Berlin for American journalism and communications students. The program runs from June 4th - August 17th, 2012.

Duties: For the first six weeks of the program, participants will take part in a seminar series to expand their academic understanding of the politics, society and culture of Germany, and the country's current social conditions and media scene. During the seventh week, students will go on excursions within Germany together with journalism students from the Independent States of the former Soviet Union. The final five weeks consist of an intensive internship with a German newspaper, magazine, radio station or PR firm in or near Berlin.

Skills & Description: Applicants must have at least "advanced intermediate" German skills to take part in the program, as the seminars and internships take place in the German language. The 15 applicants who are finally selected for the program will be awarded a monthly stipend of 650 Euros for the duration of their stay in Germany. DAAD will also provide health and accident insurance. Intercontinental travel is at the participants' expense.

The application deadline is January 31, 2012.

Paid Washington, D.C. journalism internships

The Koch Internship Program takes place in Washington, DC, and participants work in substantive, paid roles at one of our dozens of non-profit partner organizations that work to further economic freedom. The interns not only get paid to explore a career in economic freedom, but also engage in professional education, networking opportunities, and receive continued career guidance after the program. Both students and graduates at all academic levels have participated and are encouraged to apply.

A variety of journalism and communication positions are available including: video production, coordinating social media projects, drafting press releases, investigative journalism, reporting, blogging, editing, broadcast journalism and online content creation.

The spring Koch Internship Program application deadline is December 15, 2011 and the program runs from January 23, 2012 to May 4, 2012. The summer Koch Internship Program application deadline is March 1, 2012 and the program runs from June 4, 2012 to August 17, 2012.

Roles vary, and include a variety of fields from policy analysis to communications to non-profit operations. Interns generally decide to work 20-40 hours per week and earn $10.00 per hour and $50.00 per month in Metro benefits.
