Paid journalism internships @ Salt Lake Deseret News

The Deseret News, a 70,000 circulation daily newspaper in Salt Lake City, Utah, is offering paid journalism internships.

Some internships are full-time (40 hours a week); some 16- to 24-hour part-time internships also are available and may include flexibility to work around class schedules. Each pays $8 an hour. Applicants are welcome to apply with more than one department. Specific information for departments offering internships follows:
  • NEW MEDIA: Formatting and generating content for deseretnews.com and associated websites. Aptitude for website design and development helpful. Full-time and part-time internships.

  • LOCAL NEWS: Reporting on police, courts, business, communities, schools, politics, human services, general news stories. Full- or part-time interns.

  • MORMON TIMES & FEATURES: News and information for and about members of the LDS Church, plus general-interest arts, entertainment, lifestyles, home and garden, crafts, family issues, food and leisure. Work includes writing and managing online content. Full- or part-time internships.

  • CHURCH NEWS (an official publication of the LDS Church): news and information for members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Full-time internship.

  • BUSINESS: Reporting on local and national business topics including innovation, entrepreneurship, money & politics, career, technology and financial responsibility. Prefer background with finance/accounting/economics.
