MBA Scholarships for Journalists at University of Cambridge in UK

Cambridge Judge Business School is offering a scholarship to a new intake who works in the media industry and is applying to start a Cambridge MBA in September 2012. You must first apply the MBA admission before sending applying for the scholarship.

Value of Scholarship: £10,000 towards the cost of the MBA fees.

Eligibility: You need to have a deep understanding of the changes in the industry. This may have been gained as a journalist, but applications will also be considered from candidates who work in the creative or financial side of media.

How to Apply: If you have been offered a place in the MBA programme, then send the MBA admission an email with a one page essay explaining your suitability for the Media.

Deadline: April 20, 2012.

United Kingdom journalism scholarships

  • City University London Scholarships: BBC, Channel 4 and several other organizations, sponsor scholarships for students pursuing master’s degrees in the university’s journalism department. Both United Kingdom and non-U.K. students are eligible.
  • Scott Trust Bursaries: Guardian Media Group's owners offer eight scholarships per year for aspiring journalists to pursue a postgraduate degree in newspaper, broadcast or multimedia journalism. The scholarships may be used at several universities and they cover tuition costs and provide a £5,000 stipend for room and board. Applicants must be permanent U.K. residents. 
  • Alexia Foundation Photojournalism Scholarships: Scholarships ranging from partial tuition to full tuition are available for both undergraduate and graduate students to study photojournalism for one semester at Syracuse University’s London Program. Applicants must be full-time students at a college or university in the U.S. or abroad.
  • Thomson Reuters Fellowship Programme: Provides funding for more than 20 mid-career journalists from around the world receive to study and research their interests at Oxford University for one, two or all three terms in an academic year.  
  • Louis Baylis Journalism Scholarship: Two applicants will receive a scholarship to study journalism and have the possibility of a full-time job at a weekly newspaper in the U.K. Specifically, winners take an all-expenses paid 20-week journalism course at Highbury College, in Portsmouth, England. If the candidate passes the course and a vacancy exists at the Advertiser they will be employed as a trainee reporter. The newspaper will then take over their training and assist them with their final professional National Council for the Training of Journalist exams. The scholarship scheme is open to anyone living in the area covered by the Maidenhead or Twyford Advertiser.
  • Alistair Cooke Award in Journalism: The annual scholarship, part of the Fulbright Program, is offered to a student to pursue a master’s degree in either journalism or a specialist subject leading to a career in journalism at an American university. Applicants must be a U.K. citizen and hold or expect to obtain a minimum 2:1 honours undergraduate degree prior to enrolment with the American university.The final award amount will depend on the choices the candidate makes during the university placement process and range from the $25,000 to a fully-funded program.
