Photographer job opening @ New Jersey newspaper chain

North Jersey Media Group, a chain of weekly newspapers in northern New Jersey, is hiring a photojournalist.

This staff photographer will be responsible for taking pictures as assigned as well as producing enterprise photos using digital equipment to shoot and scan into computer system. Photographer will also manage coverage by freelancer photographers as necessary.

  • Editorial: To apply, you should be a graduate of a post-secondary journalism, communications or marketing program. You can put together colorful copy, news articles and web content. You’ll have access to VIPs and celebrities on a regular basis allowing you to produce incredible pieces for your portfolio. No, you don’t have to be published and no, you don’t have to have any work experience behind you. What you do need to be is driven with excellent writing skills. We can teach you the ins and outs of email campaigns, feature writing, marketing copy and the rest. Bring the attitude, and we’ll bring the experience!
  • Media Production: You are a media school graduate trained in both filming and editing. You have a natural eye for shots, a deep sense of storytelling and are passionate about creating high quality productions. Again, you don’t have to have any broadcast credits or formal work experience. We’ll teach you how to plan, produce and post-produce broadcast quality content - content that you can put on your showreel to blow potential employers AWAY! You will be working in a highly successful Youtube channel with access to VIPs and celebrities on a regular basis. Your work will be seen by millions and your creativity and personal vision will be encouraged at all times. You’ll film using Sony/Canon HDV and DSLR and edit using Final Cut Pro/Premiere Pro.
  • Photography: You are an arts graduate (or have equivalent experience) with a passion for photography who lives to capture that perfect shot. Paid summer journalism internships worldwide @ Associated Press

The Associated Press, a news wire service that is the world's largest news organization. is offering paid journalism internships for Summer 2012 in 10 U.S. cities (including Atlanta, Chicago, Dallas, Los Angeles, New York, Philadelphia, San Francisco and Washington, D.C.) and 10 international locations (including London, Jerusalem, Seoul, Mexico City, Rome, Bangkok, Johannesburg, New Delhi, Rio de Janeiro and Moscow).

The interns will write stories, shoot videos and/or take photos from these bureaus for 12 weeks this summer. Although a primary format may be declared – depending on interest and ability – the internships will provide experience and training in all three. Interns will attend and contribute to all-format editorial meetings. Assignments will be made by a trainer who will also provide performance appraisals during the course of the internship.

Applicants Applicants must be: a) Current full-time students within two years of earning an undergraduate degree or b) Current full-time graduate students or c) Students who graduated December 2011 or later. Paid summer journalism internships @ Salt Lake Tribune

The Salt Lake Tribune, a 106,000-circulation daily newspaper in Utah, has a paid summer internship program that places interns in its newsroom full time for 10 weeks each summer, working in a variety of different roles.

The start and end dates of the 10-week period are flexible but the internship generally begins in early June and ends in mid-August. Pay is $500 per week.

Interns are expected to have their own transportation and to find housing during their internships.

The Reno Gazette-Journal, a 67,000-circulation daily newspaper in Nevada, is looking for a summer 2012 photography intern.

The internship is a paid 12-week commitment. However, start/end date is flexible depending on intern's college schedule. Paid summer internships @ newspaper chain

Wick Communications, a chain of 28 community newspapers in the West and South, is offering paid summer internships for reporting, photojournalism and graphics and page design.

The 12-week internships pay $360 a week plus overtime, with a travel allowance of $400 if you need to relocate for the summer and an additional $400 a month living expense allowance if needed.

Paid 6-month photojournalism internship @ Kansas newspaper

The Hutchinson News, a 30,000 circulation newspaper covering all of southwest and south-central Kansas, is offering a paid 6-month photojournalism internship.

College photojournalism students with two years of college experience and recent graduates will be considered. The candidate will be treated as a staff photographer working 40-hour weeks during the paid internship. The candidate will work closely with the photo editor and staff photographers. The candidate will travel and transmit photos from remote locations, prepare images for publication, and generate their own photo ideas. Multi-media experience is desired but not required.
