Naperville Community Television (Channel 17), a TV station in the western suburbs of Chicago, is looking for a part-time news reporter for its weekly newscast.

The ideal candidate will have 1-3 years of professional experience. The News Reporter needs to have the following skill sets:
1. Prior television news experience
2. Strong Technical skills -- must be able to shoot and edit (FCP) own work
3. Strong writing skills
4. Story telling skills
5. Organization and task management
6. Good presentation both on and off the camera

BBC offering journalism apprenticeships in Scotland

The BBC seeks applicants for its 2013 apprenticeship program based in Glasgow.

The apprentices will receive $14,397 (or UK£9,000) to work with the BBC, STV and independent production companies for one year making radio, TV and online content for all kinds of output and programs.

Duties include administrative support and office duties, as well essential tasks like taking tapes and equipment from one location to another. Possible tasks include booking travel, arranging meetings, helping to make content and more.

CNN hiring journalism graduate students for entry-level trainee program

Graduate students studying broadcasting or journalism students can apply for CNN's entry level training program.

The CNN's Newsgathering Master Fellowship gives young journalists the opportunity to perform the duties of an assignment editor/producer in the newsgathering operation of CNN’s Washington, D.C. bureau. Fellows also receive mentoring.

Assignment editors participate in the planning and execution of news coverage. They do extensive research, screen tape and assist in the shooting and editing of stories. Producers cover events, write stories for the CNNWire and CNN.com and produce packages for air.

They will also be mentored by some of the most talented producers and correspondents working at CNN today.

BBC accepting applications for broadcast journalism apprenticeship program

The BBC, a British public service broadcaster that is the largest broadcaster in the world,  is accepting applications for its 2012 apprenticeship program.

An apprentice is someone who is there to learn as well as to work. As such, applicants don't need a lot of experience or qualifications. However, applicants must have the right to work in the U.K.

You will study at Westminster Kingsway College and receive skills training at the BBC in West London. You’ll work with teams making TV programs and websites for the BBC and Independent production companies. Your duties could range from providing general admin support to a production team, to booking equipment, arranging meetings, helping on shoots and maybe doing basic research. We will give you training and support to achieve your goals – and you’ll gain a qualification at the end of it, as well as hands on experience in television and online.

You will be paid an apprenticeship wage of £11,000 a year. Positions are available in Glasgow and London.

The Apprentice Journalist assists in the preparation and publishing of online materials, particularly show rundowns and related online documents for All Things Considered on NPR.org. Essential Duties Include: Produces and edits show rundowns and related documents for the All Things Considered area of NPR.org, including text and headlines. Works under very tight deadlines. Accuracy, spelling and grammar skills are essential for the position. Works closely with All Things Considered editors and producers, and NPR.org staffers, to coordinate All Things Considered content on NPR.org. Ability and willingness to work weekends at any hour, including overnight shifts. Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent, with training in journalism and/or research. Expertise in daily coverage of national news or general news. Familiarity with specialty topics such as world news, business, sports, science, music, arts. Solid, independent news judgment. Demonstrated skills in editing and headline-writing. Understanding of journalistic ethics. Experience maintaining high journalistic standards under deadline pressure, including standards of objectivity, balance and fairness. Willingness to learn skills necessary to work on a Web publication; ability to adapt to changes in equipment, software and workflow. Strong oral communication skills. Demonstrated ability to generate and execute complex creative ideas and to assimilate and organize large amounts of information. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Candidate must be available to work any assigned shift, including nights and weekends. Ability and willingness to relocate. In the future, NPR may choose to transfer employees to other geographic locations. Severance provisions of the AFTRA collective bargaining agreement will apply should you choose not to accept a transfer.

Entry-level TV journalism jobs @ PBS

PBS, a non-profit public broadcasting service with 354 member TV stations in the U.S., is offering entry-level desk assistant positions for its NewsHour program. Jobs pay $9/hour, run from July 11, 2011, to January 13, 2012, and are based in Washington, D.C.

The Desk Assistant (DA) position is part of a six-month entry-level program aimed at providing practical experience in a broadcast news setting. The DAs are exposed to all aspects involved in producing a nightly television news program. This position is divided into rotations among the different units that compose the NewsHour: research, newsroom, tape library, reporting, and production.

Over the course of the program, each of the 8 Desk Assistants hired will work in 3 of the 6 different rotations for a period of two months each. They also act as support staff for Senior Producers, Associate Producers, Reporters and Production Assistants, by answering phones, sorting mail, distributing paper and other administrative tasks. Finally, Desk Assistants will attend a series of breakfasts with various members of our organization including correspondents.
