Global journalism fellowship in Toronto for young journalists

Young journalists who aspire to be foreign correspondent can apply for an 8 month fellowship from the University of Toronto. Hurry, the deadline is February 13, 2012.

U of T's Munk School of Global Affairs is offering 10 fellowships to journalists expert knowledge of complex topics. Fellows will be mentored by a professional journalist while freelancing to major media and attend journalism courses and lectures. Fellows graduate with a certificate in global journalism.

Qualifications include a graduate degree, professional degree or equivalent work experience in a specialized field - business, economics, health, technology, science and more - and English fluency. Professional journalism experience is not a requirement.

Applicants must submit a resume, transcripts, two story proposals, work samples, a personal essay, video statement and three recommendation letters.

Radio reporter job in Ontario, Canada

CD 98.9, a Canadian radio station in Simcoe, Ontario, has an opening for a full time newscaster/reporter.

We are a station with a very strong commitment to local news coverage. We are looking for someone who understands what local radio is all about. We want someone who is interested in becoming a part of this community and has a strong nose for news.

Duties & responsibilities of this position:
- Reporting on weekly community meetings i.e. council, school board, and any other meetings and events that come up.
- anchor weekend morning newscasts
- Be available to cover other shifts when necessary

To be successful in this position you should have:
- Community College education in broadcast journalism or the equivalent
- Good news sense
- Good writing skills
- Strong on-air delivery
- The ability to work both independently and as part of a team.

Canadian Journalism Project seeks editor

The Canadian Journalism Project (a.k.a. J-Source.ca), the number one Canadian journalism news website in Canada, seeks a journalist to join its team as Associate Editor. Position pays $35,000-$40,000 and is based in Toronto.

The Associate Editor is directly responsible for managing all content on J-Source, acting as both a reporter and editor as necessary. You will be linking to, writing and posting news, features and commentary about what is happening in Canadian journalism: resources to help reporters, writers and editors; professional practices, ethics and media law; how journalism is taught and studied; and, academic research on the profession and the industry. While the site is targeted primarily to journalists, our audience also includes researchers, professors, students and the general public. J-Source.ca and its French counterpart ProjetJ.ca are projects of the Canadian Journalism Foundation (CJF) in collaboration with journalism schools and organizations across Canada.

Applicants should have a minimum of 2 years experience working as a journalist in a news gathering environment (multimedia experience an asset); visit J-Source regularly and can demonstrate a strong knowledge of and interest in Canadian journalism issues;have story ideas to suggest and potential sources of content; possess excellent research, reporting, writing, proofreading and editing skills in English and can ensure timely delivery of accurate content both as a reporter and editor; know how to produce original stories whether that’s working as a reporter or collaborating with volunteer editors and writers; know your way around the Web having tweeted, friended, blogged, managed content and otherwise communicated with various online networks;

Responsibilities:
* Seek out relevant news, opinion, analysis, resources and write daily blog posts about journalism;
* Report and write original features, live blogging of events;
* Copyedit all content ensuring consistency, accuracy, and fairness;
* Seek opportunities for original content, assign it (where required) on section editors' behalf, and work with creators and editors to shape and post the content
* Manage the weekly e-newsletter;
* Update J-Source Twitter and Facebook pages and moderate comments from readers throughout the day;
* Ensure J-Source.ca demonstrates journalistic excellence through all the content and its relationship with the audience;

Entry-level writer @ Maclean's magazine

Maclean’s, a 350,000-circulation newsweekly magazine in Canada, is accepting applications for a one year paid journalism internship in its Toronto office.

"Interns are fulltime entry-level journalists who attend story meetings and pitch ideas for publication along with other members of the editorial staff, as well as research, report and write stories for the print magazine and the website," the ad states. "Interns are expected to contribute to larger efforts such as special projects and cover articles.”

The paid internship begins in May at an annual rate of $22,500.
