Paid multimedia internship in Montana

The Montana Stockgrowers Association is offering a paid multimedia internship in Helena, Montana, this summer. The 12-week internship pays $5,000.

The intern reporter will put together feature packages for the organization's website and help them develop their social media presence. Applicants should be juniors, seniors or graduate students with strong interviewing skills and experience in video production and editing. You'll need to be able to create multimedia stories including video, photographs and well-written articles.

Paid summer internship @ history website

The Thomas Jefferson Foundation is redesigning its main website, www.monticello.org, and needs a multimedia intern to assist. The full-time summer internship is based in Philadelphia and pays $3,000-plus. Academic credit is also available.

While this may not seem like the most ideal journalism internship, in this economy it's important to be flexible and consider non-traditional opportunities.

"The intern will play key roles both in facilitating the integration of social content complementing the new site’s curatorial content, and in interpreting this content," the ad states. "This will entail tasks ranging from tagging objects in the collection, interviewing Monticello staff, blogging, creating community profile information, and facilitating dialog with onsite visitors. This is a unique and valuable opportunity for history students to engage first-hand with how social media is used to give a world-class cultural institution a thriving and dynamic participatory online presence."

Paid journalism internship for South Americans

Recent university graduates from Chile and Nicaragua can apply for a one-year paid journalism internship in Spain.

The Pescanova-EFEverde International Internships will give two young journalists the opportunity to spend a year in Spain, splitting their time between EFEverde, a new global platform for environmental reporting operated by international news agency EFE, and the communications division of Pescanova, a Spanish seafood company. Scottish Student Press Awards

$5,000 award for college journalists

College journalists can win up to $5,000 for stories they published for a school publication or website.

The Robert Novak Collegiate Journalism Award "recognizes excellence in well-sourced news stories or analytical reports in collegiate newspaper, magazine, print or online." First place winner receives $5,000.00, plane ticket to D.C. and one night in hotel for awards ceremony at the National Press Club. Second place gets $2,500 and third place wins $1,000.

Here are the guidelines:

Judges will recognize stories or series of stories that show initiative, original reporting and superior writing skills.Only one entry per person, up to 3 stories per entry. Entries must be postmarked by April 15, 2010. Entrants must be undergraduate students, currently enrolled in a college/university in the U.S. Entries must have been published in a print or on-line student publication. Entries should be news stories; commentary or editorials are not eligible. Entries must have been written between April 12, 2009 and April 12, 2010.
