"Published daily, the website needs interns for various office, editorial, and content management duties," the ad states. Pay is $10 per hour for 35 hours per week.

Duties include: assigning subject area categories to online magazine articles. Researching and entering related data about entertainment people and products. Sports journalism scholarships

College students interested in a career in sports journalism can apply for a $1,500 scholarship.

The Associated Press Sports Editors, a national organization of sports editors, is sponsoring four $1,500 scholarships. College students entering their sophomore, junior or senior years are eligible for the scholarship, which will awarded based on the students' journalistic work, their academic record, financial need, and geography. The scholarships will be awarded to students from four different regions of the United States.

Apply by June 1, and include the following information in your application: Name, address, age, phone number. A copy of the your college grades. A brief rundown of your financial situation, with regards to how you plan to pay for tuition and copies of any pertinent records including the copies of the FAFSA form EFC and family’s income tax return. NBC News is offering a one-year paid internship in its Washington, D.C. bureau.

"The goal is to give one graduating senior the opportunity to be mentored by seasoned NBC News staff members and truly experience a yearlong 'boot camp' in political journalism," the job posting states.

The "Tim Russert Fellowship" gives an entry-level journalist the opportunity to rotate throughout key areas of the bureau including assignments on “Meet the Press” and with the NBC News Political Unit. Responsibilities will include assisting on-air talent and producers, participating in news shoots, and story research.

NBC News plans to sponsor the Fellowship annually as a lasting tribute to Russert, a renowned political journalist who passed away last year.

Internships run 3 to 9 months. As for pay, the announcement states: "You aren’t going to get rich. But you’ll definitely be able to get by."

Interns are needed in news, sports, video journalism and programming. "We’re looking for at least a couple of people to help us on the news side of lasvegassun.com, a journalist to help us with lasvegasweekly.com, a sports journalist to help us across all of our sites, and a video journalist to help us with our upcoming, new daily television show," the announcement states. "We’re also looking for programmers with an understanding of Django. And if you’re a designer with killer Flash or motion-graphics skills, we want you."

Journalism fellowship in S. Korea

Journalists with five years experience can apply for a 10-day all-expenses paid trip to South Korea.

The fellowship, sponsored by the Korean Press Foundation and European Journalism Centre, includes lectures, meetings and interviews about politics, economy, society and culture. Its aim is "to promote comprehensive understanding of the Northeast Asian nation."

Fellows receive a payment in national currency equal to 500 euros to partially cover the flight ticket. Accommodation, local transport, interpretation and subsistence fees will be covered by the organizers.

"Eligible journalists will have five years full-time experience and command of the English language," the ad states. "Print journalists or editors are recommended to apply, but freelance journalists and broadcast journalists are also welcome."

Aspiring journalism students can apply for an all-expense-paid, two-week camp July 5 to 18 at Eastern Illinois University in Charleston.

Take my college journalism course online

This summer, you can take my Introduction to Journalism course online.

My 10-week interactive online course is designed to teach students with little or no practical experience in journalism the process of reporting and writing the news. The 3-credit course is offered through Marist College, where I'm a full-time professor. Because the course is taught online, no traveling is required and you can take lessons when it's convenient for you.

The course will introduce students to the way reporters do their jobs – how they think, act and produce newsworthy stories. New media will also be covered. Students will learn by reading, studying, questioning, discussing and practicing the craft of journalism. They will learn how to report, interview, write and revise news stories – and become a more discerning consumer of news.

Lessons feature video lectures, interactive exercises and class discussions – all from the convenience of the student’s computer. Students will be assigned to cover real news stories and will receive detailed feedback. I'll also work with students to help them get their stories published. The Robert Novak Collegiate Journalism Award "recognizes excellence in collegiate reporting in which the student's work demonstrates an understanding of the basic ideas that support a free society, including freedom of the press, freedom of speech and free-market economic principles."

To be eligible, applicants must be attending a 4-year college/university in the U.S. and must have published their work in a school newspaper (or its website) between March 15, 2008 and March 15, 2009.

First Place comes with a $5,000 prize; Second Place provides $2,500; and Third Place awards $1,000. The awards are sponsored by The Fund for American Studies, a Washington-based educational organization.

Entry-level arts & culture journalism fellowship

Entry-level journalists interested in arts and culture journalism should consider applying for a new paid fellowship. The 8-month part-time positions, which can be done via telecommuting, will give two journalists the chance to write stories for magazines such as Mother Jones, ColorLines and WireTap.

"This part-time fellowship will run from May 15 to December 15, 2009," the ad states. "Each fellow will receive a $10,000 stipend as well as consistent mentorship and editorial support. Fellows are expected to work 2-3 full, workdays each week (about 20 hours), produce at least one monthly feature (written, podcast, video or photo slide show), one interview and four blog posts per month.
